Museum dedicated to the history of the Jewish community of Girona since the mediaeval period of the 11th century until their expulsion in the 15th century. You could contemplate objects of the Jewish culture as well as gravestones coming from the Jewish cemetery of Montjuïc. The Centre Bonastruc Ça Porta manages the rehabilitation of the Jewish Quarter and accommodates temporary exhibitions related to the Jewish culture. The Institute of studies Nahmànides is a center of documentation and research of the Jewish world with bibliography and a specialized library.
MUSEUM HALLS:
It can be observed daily objects and jewells, dated from the 11th to the 14th centuries, which where found in excavations in the old Jewish Quarter from Girona, as well as ritual knives to circumcise. There're glass cabinets with some Hebrew documents mentioning for example the owners of the benches of the sinagoue of Perpinyà in the 14th century. There's also a reproduction of the great entrace of the last sinagogue of Girona. More over, we can see the gravestones of the old Jewish graveyard in Montjuïc which means "mountain of the Jews". |
